Cosmopolitan: July 2018 – Issa Rae

Insecure star Issa Rae is featured in the July 2018 issue of Cosmopolitan.

In the issue:

The Insecure star shines in the summer’s best beauty and talks finding your inner confidence.

Her show may be called Insecure, but writer, actress and all-around badass Issa Rae is anything but. And these bold summer beauty looks? Equally boss. Here’s Issa on everything from blocking out the haters to what it was like becoming the face of CoverGirl.

Why confidence is a continuum:

“Confidence comes from knowing your shit is good. I’m for sure confident when it comes to work and trying to fulfill my dreams. Socially, the confidence has teetered, but that’s growing as I’m coming into who I am.”

How she doesn’t hear the haters:

“There comes a point when you have to block it out but remain humble—that’s the balance I’m trying to navigate.”

Why appearances are personal:

“I’m going to look how I want to look—it’s going to be on my own terms. If people criticize my look, it really does not matter to me. It’s about how I feel.”

On that season two glow-up:

“I thrive off fresh starts. I will do a cleanse or diet—I need a reset button. So seeing myself on TV for a season was an excuse to be like ‘I want to lose a couple of pounds.’ I want to look my best, be my best, and feel my best.”

Becoming the face of CoverGirl was…

“Kind of surreal. Like, ‘Wow, y’all are choosing me?’ It was for the little girl in me who never thought that this would be possible. There’s power in representation. There’s affirmation in representation.”

How she wants women of color to be seen onscreen:

“I prioritize making darkskinned women desirable. You don’t see a lot of dark-skin representation. That’s been overlooked. Also, seeing them as beautiful, in addition to desirable, which are two very different things.”

Insecure returns August 12 on HBO.

Marie Claire Australia: July 2018 – Isla Fisher

Arrested Development star Isla Fisher is featured in the July 2018 issue of Marie Claire Australia.

In the issue:

For more than two decades, Isla Fisher has been charming Hollywood with glamour and giggles. Sitting down with Marie Claire at the exclusive Chateau Marmont, the Perth-born actress opens up about the joys and challenges of raising a family in LA.

“Juggling a family in LA isn’t easy,” says Fisher, 42, who has three young children Olive, 10, Elula, seven, and Montgomery, three. “There’s not really a culture of bringing your kids to dinner parties or to restaurants past 6pm. I tend to entertain at home because I want to be with my family – it’s easier to put your kids to bed and have a wine with friends.”

Fisher and Baron Cohen met at a party in 2002, and she describes that moment as like “winning the lottery.” Married since 2010, Fisher puts their attraction down to being “polar opposites” and reveals their relationship success is due to “a shared sense of humour and a willingness to be married.”

The family is planning to return to Australia for Christmas this year and Fisher has dreams of relocating. “I have this secret fantasy of slowing down, moving to Byron Bay, getting off the grid and sitting on the sand with a Vegemite sandwich,” she admits.

Arrested Development is currently streaming on Netflix.

Regard Magazine: June 2018 – Lela Loren

Power star Lela Loren is featured in the June 2018 issue of Regard Magazine.

From the digital issue:

The success of Power is phenomenal. How have you appreciated the development of Angela’s character throughout the seasons?

“Throughout the seasons, no matter what happens she’s completely unable to stop loving Jamie. She tries to stamp it out, but fails continually. This gives such a human, vulnerable, even childish counterpoint to her slick professionalism. Playing that contradiction is incredibly rewarding.”

There’s always been this back and forth tug of war between Angela and Ghost (Omari Hardwick). Despite some decisions, Angela is a strong woman that’s not afraid to fail. How do you think that translates to the audience?

“Though strong and intelligent, Angela is a character who doesn’t play by the narrow rules of society and morality. The power of Angela’s character is that whether you love her or hate her, she completely engages you.”

What can you share with us about Angela, her relationships and the rest of the cast for season two?

“It’s a season of ‘strange bed fellows.’ I’ll leave it at that.”

The season premiere of Power airs Sunday, July 1st on Starz.

Regard Magazine: June 2018 – Jackie Cruz

Orange is the New Black star Jackie Cruz is featured in the June 2018 issue of Regard Magazine.

From the digital issue:

What is going to happen in season 6 of OITNB?:

“I can’t tell you anything about season six. I can just tell you that I’m in it. It comes out July 27 and mark your calendars because I’m sure going to be at home watching it.”

Other than OITNB, you’re also working on music. What can you share about your new project?

I am working on music right now. I can share that my new single came out May 25 “La Hora Loca.” I’m really excited about my music, it’s always been my first love. I am really excited about taking my career into the next level through music.”

We look forward to seeing you on OITNB. What other projects do you have coming up?

I just filmed a movie in New Mexico called All the World is Sleeping. I get to play a character that’s fun, very different than Flaca. I have my own production company called Unspoken Productions and I signed myself to Unspoken Records. I am pretty much making music for my own movies.

Season six of Orange is the New Black will be available for streaming via Netflix on July 26.
