Empire star Jussie Smollett is featured in the Fall 2017 issue of Heed Magazine.
Activist, actor and musician, Jussie Smollett recently sat down with Heed Magazine‘s guest interviewer “Sassy” Bermudez for our Fall cover feature. The Empire star opened up about the highly anticipated fourth season, his ambitions in the industry and his continued efforts to use his platform in tackling social injustices.
The newest season of Empire brings a new dynamic to the Lyon clan. Jussie’s character Jamal Lyon grapples with a tense relationship with his father. “What I love this time around is that, Jamal gets to show a different side of Lucious (who is recovering from a coma).”
He believes that there’s nothing more important than for artists like himself to use their platform to address global issues. “There’s this silent intimidation, sometimes it’s loud too, but the silent intimidation is the worst type.”
He’ll be releasing his album at the beginning of next year. When asked about the album’s inspiration, Jussie reveals, “Love, just love,” he explains. “For me the root of everything is love. Greed is the love of money, love of oil, love of ignorance. But love is the root of all of it.”
Empire airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Fox.
