Game of Thrones alum Indira Varma is featured in the October 2017 issue of Harper’s Bazaar India.
From the digital issue:
Indira Varma, the warrior queen from Game of Thrones is just as fierce in real life. Her time on the award-winning show might have been limited, but she scorched our screens as Ellaria Sand. She played a woman hell-bent on living life on her own terms. The compelling show has a colossal following worldwide. “What it has achieved in terms of storytelling, narrative and structure is unreal,” she says. But Varma talks about it as a “fun experience. I got to wear lovely, superbly-crafted costumes, travel to hot places, and act with Pedro Pascal.”
Varma was born in England to an Indian father and Swiss mother. She played Maya in the Mira Nair film Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love in 1996. “I wish I had a mentor” she says. “I adored all the other actors in it–we became like a little family.
The flip-side of having a rich and varied career? Life outside of acting can sometimes be hectic and Varma, who has a 10-year-old daughter with her partner, actor Colin Tierney, talks about being unable to sit still. “It’s chaotic. But I try and do something lovely every day. It’s juggling work with family life. That’s my life in a nutshell.”
