Underground star Jurnee Smollett-Bell is featured in the March 2017 issue of EBONY.
From the digital issue:
Dpn’t let her enchanting smile and innocent beauty fool you. Jurnee Smollett-Bell isn’t just another pretty face, as the star of WGN’s hit series Underground, the 30-year-old actress represents for enslaved ancestors who never stopped fighting for freedom and fairness. It’s a lesson she learned from her own hero, her mother.
Smollett-Bell’s decision to define herself and chart her own course is paying off. In 2010, she married musician Josiah Bell and last November the couple welcomed their first child, Hunter Zion. “In so many ways, I think my career has been underestimated,” she says.
On the night of the election results came in, the actress Tweeted: “Dear America, you broke my heart.” During our interview she presents a more defiant, determined tone. “I don’t think this is Trump’s America. I reject the notion that it’s his country. It’s our country and we must own it. We must take it back.”
Season two of Underground premieres March 8 at 10/9c on WGN America.
